Workshops begin today. Pray!
Internet access has been hard to come by. Sorry for the lack of information.
I made it to Samfya without a problem. This is the Africa I remember. One paved road through the middle of town. People riding bikes that are overloaded inches away from speeding cars. Power goes on and off through out the day. No running water. That said meeting Christians is wonderful. I spoke at the graduation ceremony of the Samfya Bible School. It was a celebration. Lots of singing and dancing. The graduates danced in and danced out. Glitter was flying too! These graduates will go back to their villages in very rural areas. One board member told me, "What is unique about Samfya Bible School is that graduates actually go back to their villages. As soon as that ceases to be the focus of the school, I'm not interested in being involved any more." I'm glad to be here. Pray for us. The workshops on curriculum development begin today.

Jo'burg is Europe
If you didn't tell me I was in Africa I would have thought I was in the States. The airport in Johannesburg, South Africa is as nice as any I've been in. Feels just like Europe. I'm on the ground in Zambia. Should be in Samfya by dinner time. Then a different African experience begins.

Johannesburg
Arrived in Jo'burg safely. The airport is festooned with advertisements for the 2010 World Cup. Quite nice actually. The hotel shuttle driver had to remind the American that soccer is not our strong sport. "The US did better than I expected," he said. I knew it would do no good to mention that the Yankees are in the ALCS,again.
Tomorrow it's on to Lusaka, Zambia. By the end of the day I'll be in Samfya.
I'm hoping to learn from people who know Christ, and who, although he has given them far less possessions, find their joy in him.
Is Christ enough for me because he has given me so much in addition to salvation? Would he be enough if I were forced to live on $2 a day?

Here's the question. What can an American learn about the sufficiency of Christ in a land where the majority live on less than $2/day? On the plane. Here we go!
Packing my bathing suit this morning. Elise says, "Dad, don't get eaten by a crocodile!" Pray for me.
